Bob Wedl, Director

Bob is currently the Director of the Minnesota Sponsor Assistance Network, a cooperative initiative sponsored by Education/Evolving and the Minnesota Department of Education. A key purpose of this project is to identify effective learning as well as management models. Armed with these models, sponsors involved with this Project will solicit applications from prospective operators to run these chartered schools.

Bob served as Minnesota’s Commissioner of the Department of Children, Families and Learning in the mid 1990’s and was a leader in the development of much of Minnesota’s choice policy including open enrollment, post-secondary enrollment options, “second-chance” programs and chartered schools. He was also involved in the development of Minnesota’s learning standards and statewide testing program. He recently served as Executive Director of Planning and Policy for the Minneapolis Public Schools where he provided direction to the district’s nine chartered schools and 33 contract schools as well as to the district’s accountability system. Bob is also an adjunct faculty member in the education administration departments at the University of Minnesota and at the University of St. Thomas.

Bob has both undergraduate and graduate degrees from St. Cloud State University.
