Richard Ingersoll

Dr. Ingersoll, a former high school teacher, is Professor of Education and Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a leading expert on the elementary and secondary teaching force in the U.S.

He examines teaching as a job, teachers as employees, and schools as workplaces, from a teacher’s pre-employment training through the last day in the classroom. Dr. Ingersoll frequently presents information to policymakers at the national, state, and local levels.
