Teacher Authority Is...
De Jure and De Facto
De jure authority is granted to the school governing board via the pilot agreement. The agreement gives the board authority to make decisions in some areas, including authority to hire and fire the head of school and approve the budget. De facto, teachers make decisions in the areas indicated. Teachers and the community hire and fire the head of school. They also set the budget.

About the Learning Program

Learning program is based on John Dewey and W.E.B. Du Bois’ ideas that we learn from experiences. Learning is a continual process. We’re always learning, regardless of age. Focus is on how to foster opportunities for learning, leadership, and citizenship for both students and adults.
