De jure teachers' authority is granted via charter contract with district and waivers from union. De facto the teachers select their colleagues, although the district retains the right to fill unfilled positions.

About the Learning Program

The ALBA curriculum integrates fine arts and creative writing with emphasis on the Latino contribution and cultural arts. Bilingual school, with Spanish taught first (beginning literacy). In second grade, formal English instruction begins.
