Are you looking for a sponsor?
The Sponsor Assistance Network will assist groups that are interested in developing a new school find a sponsor that is a good match for your school. It is suggested that prior to searching for a sponsor, the group have the following completed:
An "executive summary" of the type of school the group is interested in developing including the need for the school, the model of the school, age/grades, persons interested in creating the school, when the school would open and the general area where the school will likely be located.
What is happening at the Minnesota Legislature: As of April 8, 2007
The Minnesota Senate had a number of bills that would have had significant impact on chartering in Minnesota. The one that did pass the Minnesota Senate is a cap on the number of chartered schools at 150. The House of Representatives does not have a cap on the number of schools.
Although several attempts were made by various organizations (Ed Minnesota and MASA), no changes have been made in terms of start-up revenue to current schools, lease aid, special education, transportation, etc.
There was no legislation that impacted sponsoring this year.
The House-Senate Conference Committee will work out the differences in the two bills.
Visit the Minnesota Association of Charter Schools website for more information
